May 2013

A few things that happened in May....

On Memorial Day we went to the Veterans Memorial here in Hooper and then to have a BBQ at Erin and Alex's house.

Jason doing a really weird fake pose for me....he's too funny!

BBQ and a fire at Alex and Erin's house

Love when the backyard starts to really look like summer!

My Man.....we often sit in our formal living room and just talk...he looked so cute I needed a picture.

Grady trying to explain how often he dreams that he is a shark.

My big brown speckled rust colored pots I got for Mothers Day....I love them!

The baby bear puppet we made for Kindergarten Puppet Show....and Jerrett did NOT want to take a picture and just gave me plenty of stubborn!  He's too cute.

 Jason pitching to Jerrett.

Grady sleeping with his monkey backpack.

Goodnight my little monkeys! I love these two cuties and how they both have to have a collection of books at the foot of their beds.

One sock and a handful of baby carrots and he's all set.

Jerrett's best girl, Maddie.  They were playing house.  Maddie did tumbling passes all over their "house" while Jerrett just ate stuff and watched her.  Haha!

 Field trip on the bus!

Jerrett and his cute Kindergarten teacher, Ms. Clark on the last day.

Studying "Backyardology" with dad and getting lessons in BBQ.

We had an awesome experience with Dr. Bikhazi.

Sad after the novelty of eating ice cream, popsicles, and pudding wore off.

Orange County Grownup Birthday Trip

Jason and I have had some fun trips. Some great cruises and some smaller getaways too.  This.....this little trip we took to Orange County, just the two of us, was one of the best trips of my life.  Easy.  It was glorious, easy, memorable, and crazy romantic. It was a couple months ago and yet I still feel....butterflies when I think about this trip.  I mean, it's late.....I might be really tired but I almost want to cry at how grateful I am for this trip and the memories I will always have from it.  It made for one heck of a birthday present!

Our little Ford Fiesta rental car was the cheapest option and it was perfect....maybe it's because I don't have a nice, late-model car but we really had fun with this little car.
Thursday night Angels game.  Jason has been a fan his entire life.  We have been to some spring training games in Arizona but it was his first time since his childhood to be back to see them in their home stadium.  We arrived early and stayed late to all of the games.  We walked around the entire stadium, shopped in every store, smelled every bit of greasy junk food, watched every batting practice and warmup, read every angels history plaque/mural....just soaking in that environment with him everyday was incredibly fun.
We saw the whole series againt the Orioles....they are a great team and the Angels had their work cut out for them!  Thursday night was sat along the third base line and the seats were awesome!

Albert Pujols, Mike Trout, and Eric Aybar during warmups.

Driving to the beach and the first good glimpse of the sea almost gives me chills....when you don't see it everyday, just seeing the land end and the huge expanse of the ocean take over is amazing.
We got an incredibly beautiful day at Newport Beach.

All the little beach cottages are so charming....can you imagine living a cute little home like this on the beach?!

This was before I realized that my forward facing camera was horribly dirty :)  Friday night game.
Friday we tried out the right field pavilion.  It was so fun to be in the first row and feel like any minute a ball could crush into my face....cause heaven knows I wouldn't catch it first! :)  It was a much more rowdy crowd here but it was hilarious.  There was one guy in particular who was heckling the Orioles right fielder, Nick Markakis.  His brand of heckling was the most un-offensive and mild kind ever....he had us laughing all night at the lack of thought he put into his "insults".
It was fun to enjoy fireworks after a fun and hard-fought win.

Salt Creek Beach - Dana Point.  Crazy storms happening out at sea, incredible light and cloud show.
Best. Night. Ever.

We walked on the beach and most of the night were completely alone.

A moment later, a huge wave drenched him so the decision to swim was made easy.  We swam all alone for a couple hours and it was(forgive the excess of sap) magical.  Jason swims so well and he is so much better at ocean swimming than I am. He knows how to avoid being taken out by huge waves while I, on the other hand, get completely walloped, have no idea which way was up, tumble up the beach, and finally stand up coughing and sputtering.  We laughed so much.  Jason tried to get me to swim out deeper, past the point where the waves were breaking.  It was dark, we were alone, and I couldn't stop thinking about sharks so I chose to stay and swim with the large punishing waves...which I knew was not in any way safer but STILL!  When we got back to our hotel I found roughly five pounds of sand in my swimsuit!

Instagram photos which show up in random order....

Saturday's game we got free Angels fedoras at the gate...they were fun.  We sat on the first base line on this day.
At Dana Point....we entered the gated beach through a gorgeous, ritzy community.  After our solo night swimming adventure, we discovered the gate was locked and we thought we were locked on the beach.  We hiked all the way to end of the beach where we finally found another exit at the top of like, a billion stairs going up the mountainside.  So many that I had to have a couple of breaks.  It smelled so good I didn't want to leave.  A combination of the sage on the hill and a salty breeze from the sea.  I wanted to bottle up that smell and keep it forever.  When we finally conquered all the stairs, we had a bit of hike back to where we parked.  Talking with my best friend, soggy and sandy clothes, walking through a gorgeous community at night, crazy hungry, exhilarated from so much exercise.....it will always be a favorite memory.
It's just inevitable that on a couples vacation, you will end up with a few cheesy selfies.
Another shot of Newport Beach.  We got to watch this young lifeguard throw the strap of his red life-saving thing over his body, sprint down the beach, dive into the sea, and save someone.....exactly like baywatch. So cool. :)

I hope with my entire heart that we get to do this again! Mom, thank you so so so much for taking the kids and letting them run you ragged so we could do this!
